Being Triumphant in the New Year

“Is this even possible…?” “Where do I even start…?” “Do I even have what it takes?” Those are some of the questions we often ask ourselves as we stand at the base of a seemingly insurmountable task. Unable to see the peak, we lose our gumption in doubting whether the journey is even worth the destination. Well, it is! with a resounding and unequivocal “YES, IT IS!!” As long as we have a plan of action, focus only on the next step, and possess the stick-to-itiveness to persevere, then no goal is out of reach, no triumph unattainable.

A key – and certainly essential – component to our fitness success lies simply in making the decision to craft a plan of action. Most times, this is the product of the desire to change, to improve upon some area or aspect of our lives. This is commonly known to us as a resolution. Every year, we “resolve to do this or resolve to do that…” Every fiber of our being yearns to see this resolution out to its completion and enjoy the fruits of our labor.  However, without the proper plan of action, we lose our way and ultimately give up on our goals. So, how do we come across the road map to our aspirations? Well, it takes someone to share our vision: a teammate that will fight with us to endure the adversity of the hard days to come; a Fitness Trainer, one who will listen intently to your story, and use your strengths to build upon your weaknesses and enhance your areas of development; someone that will design a program tailored specifically to your needs and has the knowledge to pinpoint exactly what it will take in order to triumph!


Consequently, once we have that map in hand, we are overcome with joy and exuberance. If we are not careful, though, these things can lead to our demise instead of our benefit. How so? Our excitement may lead us to get caught in the trap of looking too far down the road, instead of focusing keenly only on the step to come. We have to fall in love with the journey and not just the destination. If we don’t, we may stumble off track and fall from the path we set out to embark upon. The best way to avoid this pitfall is to adhere to the plan, step by step, and get involved in fitness classes that are geared towards specific areas of the body. Breaking down our overall fitness goals into smaller benchmarks will allow us to zero in and focus on what needs to be done now. Taking things step by step and displaying patience is the only way to traverse a lofty obstacle.


Similarly, along the way, there will undoubtedly be bumps in the road and hardships to endure. However, it’s like the old adage goes, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going!” It takes a certain mental toughness to stand face to face with your fears and have an unwillingness to turn away. It requires the strength, courage, and determination to persevere and push through, even when everything inside of you wants to quit.  The unfortunate reality is that sometimes it’s too hard to self-motivate and you need to rely on a friend or workout partner to get you through. The best way to ensure that you have that support is to surround yourself with like-minded individuals. By taking classes in a group setting, we can work out side by side with friends fighting towards a common goal, catapulting us towards the apex of our fitness goals. By possessing an unrelenting passion, a never-say-never attitude, and the unwavering desire to improve, we are fully equipped with everything that it takes to achieve our goals and power through any impending adversity on the road to triumph!


The fitness journey ahead may be fraught with snares on either side and filled with peaks and valleys, but if we make the decision to draft a plan of action, focus only on the next step, and resolve to persevere through all fears, doubts, and setbacks, then we can achieve our goals and reign triumphant over whatever task we set out to achieve. So, “Is this even possible?” “Where do I even start?” And, “Do I even have what it takes?” The answer is simple and it lies within YOU, and there’s no one else on the PLANET more ready to seize the day!!
