Celebrate the Coral Springs Holiday Mile & Parade

Celebrate the holidays but coming out to the Coral Springs Holiday Mile and Parade this evening at 6:15pm on Sample Rd between Coral Springs Dr and University Dr.  The holiday parade will feature music & festive holiday floats from organizations, schools, and groups across Coral Springs.

Darth Vader and members of the 501st Legion Everglades Squad (a local Star Wars fan group) are set to lead the processions.



A special mile-long race will be open to participants who wish to join.  The parade is free to watch and the race registration fee is $20.

Discover the Poetry of Faith at the Coconut Creek Culture Series

Coconut Creek has partnered with Nova Southeastern University (NSU) to offer monthly Lifelong Learning Courses entitled, “Coconut Creek Culture Series”.  Topics range from wellness to history to art, and are taught by NSU professors.  The program is free of charge to Coconut Creek residents and will be held at the Coconut Creek Commission Chambers (4800 West Copans Road) on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM.  RSVP for one or all at 954.973.6760


Tonight’s Presenter: Gary Kay, Ed.D.

Dr. Gary Kay, a teacher and poet, was born in Winnipeg, Canada. He earned a B.A. and B.Ed from University of Manitoba.  He taught high school English at a public school for 5 years.  He relocated to Florida, where he received an M.Ed in Reading and Ed.D in Reading from Florida Atlantic University.  He has taught reading and English at Broward College for the past 34 years.  He has also taught Reading in the Content Areas at Florida Atlantic University, and Reading and English education courses at Nova Southeastern University. He won two endowed teaching chair awards and was Professor of the Year at Broward College in 2000. His poems have been published in Litchfield Review, Animus, Poetica, Earthwise, Canadian Verse II, Write Room, and several others.

After being forced to spend their precious winter break with their eccentric aunt, siblings Kara and Kody are desperate to get home for Christmas. But when a winter storm cancels their flight home, the brother and sister duo are faced with a Christmas without their parents or any of their beloved family traditions. Stranded in an airport terminal with no holiday dinner and a drunken Santa impersonator, all hope for a merry Christmas rests upon their Jewish Aunt and Uncle. Featuring all of your favorite Christmas classics and a few new holiday hits, A VERY KOSHER CHRISTMAS is fun for the whole family.

Not Too Late for Fort Lauderdale Turkey Triathlon

If you are feeling bad about eating too much over Thanksgiving, have no fear!  There is still time to register for the 2015 Fort Lauderdale Turkey Triathlon at  Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek.  Accept the challenge and recieve the experience of a rewarding sense of victory.

The race begins at 7:00am (sharp) and  includes a quarter-mile swim, a 10 mile bike run, and a 3 mile run.  There is also the option to participate in the Duathlon which includes a 3/4 mile run, a 10 mile bike ride, and a 3 mile finishing run.

Individual registration costs $109.00.

Local Residents Participate in Tamarac Turkey Trot

The 35th Annual Tamarac Turkey Trot was successfully held on Thanksgiving Day (November 26th, 2015). Over 2000 runners participated in the 5k run which started at Tamarac City Hall and looped around the Woodmont community.

The Turkey Trot began first began on Thanksgiving Day in 1980–with 200 runners. Tamarac Parks and Recreation Director Greg Warner says that event aims to promote health and wellness and “brings the community together”.
